ABOUT

I am a British food photographer based in London who specialises in taking the finest food photographs designed to make people hungry for your food product. As a food photographer in London specialising in food photographs I create high quality pictures of food for food industry publications.

It is easy to use my food, interiors and lifestyle photography site. Simply click on the portfolio tab above and move to a page where you can see examples of my work as a food photographer, interiors photographer and lifestyle photographer and see the huge range of digital images of food, interiors and lifestyle pictures I have taken professionally for advertising, design and PR agencies as well as magazines and book publishers for more than 25 years.

Although I am a London based food photographer I have travelled to photograph food in many countries, restaurants and Hotels around the world to capture images of food for my international food clients. However, most of the food and drink photographs I take for my customers are taken at my London food photography studio where I enjoy excellent lighting for taking natural looking food photographs for the food industry.

I normally work with a food stylist, food home economist or other food professional to ensure the food product I am photographing is fresh and looks delicious for the food publication or food advertising campaign I am taking food and drink images for.

English food photographs must look appetizing and fresh for food advertisers and magazines on food. As a food photographer I achieve fantastic results with electronic food and drink images using digital photography of food in my well lit London studio.

A food photograph is like no other type of photography and it is important to capture the texture of the food to entice people into buying your food product. Close range food photography requires skilful studio photography using a good angle and good lighting to precisely focus on the food and capture the quality of the food ingredients and give a natural feel to the dish.

Accomplished food photographs can be captured digitally for electronic delivery anywhere in the world. I am a commercial food photographer and my work has been published internationally in cookbooks and food magazines in many different countries. The product photography I undertake for food and drink producers has also been used to advertise food around the globe.

I have worked for many corporate clients who require a food photographer that specializes in food and drink photography requiring succulent food photographs of their food products and food services. Food retailers and Hotel chains like Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco Wallmart, Marriot, Corus and Country Club Hotels have all commissioned food images to help sell their food products.

As a food photographer my commercial food client list extends to food producers like Cadbury's, Kraft Foods, Premier Foods, Sacla, Birds Eye, Youngs, McCormicks and Thornton Chocolate who demand high quality images of food designed to capture the attention of potential customers for their food products that can be used on food packaging or within editorial features to get the taste buds of food consumers going.

I have also undertaken photography commissions for Marks & Spencer and Laura Ashley and various homes and lifestyle publications using my skills as an interiors photographer and or lifestyle photographer to bring first class quality to product images that can be used editorially, within product advertising or even for images in the shop or retail outlet itself.

Different food products also have critical branding issues that the food photographer must be extremely sensitive and sympathetic to. Every corporate food brand demands sensitivity in the handling and tone of images of their food product.

I have more than two decades experience satisfying food product owners and hotel chains by creating the perfect image for their food advertising campaign or food publicity brochure. I also ensure picture editors of magazines and cookbooks get exactly the shots of food and drink they require for their editorial products.

Different types of food require subtly different framing backgrounds and angles to capture the contrasts between styles of food. Clearly an Asian dish cannot be photographed in exactly the same way as a Chinese meal. Asian food and Chinese food use ingredients in ways the professional food photographer must appreciate in order to capture images that reflect the culture and culinary history and traditions that lie behind each recipe. Overhead angles work well for Asian food.

Indian food is highly appreciated in Britain and food photographs aimed at the UK consumer should use photo techniques that can be used to bring out the multi-cultural flavour of the food. Indian curries are renowned for their spicy flavours and ingredients which a food photographer must capture and reflect.

Mild curries, such as vegetable korma or chicken tikka masala must not look as challenging as a medium curry like lamb jalfrezi while the ingredients in a very hot curry, such as chicken vindaloo, must emphasise the chillies used a core ingredient and heat of the dish.

Mexican food can be hot too, but the cultural differences between India and Mexico require a different menu of photographic techniques to capture the essence of the various recipes. The use of vegetables and garnishes in Mexican food photography must be highlighted in a different way from Indian food photography.

Mediterranean food is rich in vegetables and olive oil, yet Italian food photography, with its pasta and pizzas, must capture the essence of Italy in a quite different way that photographs of Greek food and images of Turkish dishes must be shot. Photographs of fruit and vegetables must emphasise the freshness of the product.

French cuisine is an art form in itself and the professional food photographer must be alive to the history and traditions that inform food from France. Recipes of French food can be created in the photographic studio, but the skill of a food photographer is to capture an image that says much more than the sum of the basic food ingredients.

Photographs of restaurant food in a restaurant, whether they be Chinese restaurants, Indian restaurants, Italian restaurants Hotels or traditional English cooking, are all within my photographic repertoire as a food photographer, interiors photographer and lifestyle photographer. I can shoot the food in the restaurant, hotel or at my London photo studio. I have photographed food from and at the finest restaurants and hotels in London, around the UK and the countries around the world.

I have also undertaken numerous food photograph assignments for catering companies and event organisers throughout Britain who want on-site photography of their food and services.

I am a London-based food photographer, interiors photographer and lifestyle photographer with a wide and varied portfolio of creative photography. Have a look around my food website, interiors website and lifestyle website to see the range and quality of my work as a commercial food photographer, interiors photographer and lifestyle photographer.
